Santa Maria Steel is creating a shipyard for building American shallow draft freighters manned by American crews. These American flagged ships will begin service for container shipping between the Pacific Coast and Hawaii offering competitive rates for Hawaiian shippers. Trans Pacific shipping however is only part of the Santa Maria story. These types of Santa Maria freighters are ideally capable of operating to and from smaller Pacific Coast harbors and also meet requirements for national defense capability. Support for this all-American venture has been overwhelmingly positive, The shipyard not only creates a very significant number of new direct and indirect jobs, but also raises the visibility of the community as a viable place for new business investment. The success of the shipyard renders success for the entire community. |
